If you are in the mood for some real meat raised in the green pastures of Kentucky and Tennessee, you can always turn to Porter Road. This Nashville-based meat delivery service has been delivering deliciously fresh, dry-aged cuts nationwide since 2018. However, its co-founders Chris and James started their search for the finest meats much earlier, back in 2010, making sure what ends up in their online store is truly the best of the best.

Read this Porter Road review to find out how to order from Porter Road, how its subscriptions work, what makes the company’s meat special, and how much you can expect to pay per delivery.

What Makes Porter Road Different

While researching for this Porter Road review, we were amazed by this company’s dedication to quality and sustainability. Unlike services that care more about profit than customer satisfaction and animal welfare, Porter Road exclusively cooperates with small local family farms that employ the best sustainability practices.

All animals on these farms are raised on pastures and they never spend any time in feedlots or concentrated animal feed operations. They are grown with care and in accordance with the highest environmental standards. They eat a natural diet, they never receive any antibiotics or hormones, and they are allowed to enjoy a stress-free life. At the moment, the company is working on receiving a certification recognized by the ASPCA Shop With Your Heart program.

When it comes to ensuring customer satisfaction, Porter Road has done everything possible to provide the tastiest, highest-quality meat. A diet free from artificial substances and based on grass and a custom grain blend guarantees optimal safety, texture, and marbling. The production facility located near the partner farms allows for absolute freshness and higher product quality. Finally, the dry-aging process that lasts for at least 14 days produces perfectly tender meat rich in flavor.

If you know any meat lovers who would like Porter Road, you can send them gift cards worth $25+ or treat them to the company’s gift subscriptions that allow you to surprise someone with 3, 6 or 9 months’ worth of the finest meats. Alternatively, you can spread the word through the Porter Road referral program. For every successful referral, you get $15 in rewards and your friend gets $15 off the first purchase worth $75+.

Porter Road Products

Previously in this Porter Road review, we mentioned that the service offers a neat range of beef, pork, lamb, and chicken products. Now it is time to discover what meaty delights you can order depending on whether you subscribe or shop commitment-free.

If you opt for a one-time purchase, you can choose from dozens of items and filter the company’s offer by the type of meat, cooking time, and cooking gear required. For the purpose of this Porter Road review, we will explore the product selection by meat type.

Beef

In the Beef section, you can find over 50 different cuts of dry-aged, pasture-raised beef from small Kentucky and Tennessee farms. Some of the options include ribeye, filet mignon, porterhouse, New York strip steak, Kansas City strip steak, T-bone, Denver steak, flat iron, flank, tenderloin, short ribs, burger patties, chorizo, bratwurst, kabobs, osso buco, stew meat, and liver.

Since the company practices whole-animal butchery, there is a huge range of cuts available, but keep in mind that many of them sell out quickly.

The company’s lamb is known for its amazing marbling and it comes from a local Tennessee farm. Usually, there are about a dozen items on offer, including ground lamb, ribs, T-bone, shanks, chops, leg, shoulder, neck, rack, kabobs, and lamb merguez sausages.

Subscription Boxes

Earlier in this Porter Road review, we said that subscription boxes feature curated selections of premium meat cuts. The contents of the Beef box and the Beef + Pork box change on a monthly basis. Each box usually contains 4-5 different items. For example, you can get 2 New York strip steaks, 2 boneless ribeyes, 2 pounds of ground beef, 2 pork chops, and 1 pack of cherrywood smoked bacon.

The remaining 4 boxes always feature the same items. Here is what you get with each box.

The Best Of Porter Road box includes:

  • 2 dry-aged steaks (New York strip, Kansas City strip, boneless ribeye or flat iron);
  • 2 pork chops;
  • 2 pounds of ground beef (dry-aged);
  • 1 pound of bacon; 1 pound of country sausage;
  • 1 pound of chorizo sausage.

With the Basics box, you get:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts;
  • 2 boneless sirloin steaks;
  • 1 pound of ground beef (dry-aged).

If you are interested in add-ons, you can choose from about 2 dozen options, like chicken breasts, chicken thighs, Denver steak, ground beef, hot dogs, burger patties, bratwurst, bacon, whole chicken, and a variety of other items.

Everything you get can last at least a couple of days in your fridge. Poultry can last for 4 days, pork should be cooked within 5 days, lamb can stay in the fridge for 7 days, and beef should be consumed within 10 days.

    Swift delivery is what I value the most besides the meat quality itself. With Porter Road I can always count on my meat being ready and delivered in two days max since the moment I place my order. Good job everyone at Porter Road!

  2. | February 4, 2020

    With such a wide range of beef product variety I honestly don’t know what to decide on. I prefer a smaller selection of beef products or any products for that matter otherwise I get anxious about ordering anything at all.

  3. | November 3, 2019

    I vowed I would only eat natural, humanly raised meat after watching one of those animal farm documentaries which made me feel like the worst person in the world for not caring about stuff like that in the past. I immediately searched for a place where I could order cruelty free meat from and found Porter road. I suggest everyone do the same!

    Better than we hoped! We liked that the meat was fresh and pasture raised and the prices were ok so we got the best of PR box to see if it’s any good. NY strip was real tender and tasted amazing and the ground beef was far better than what we usually get. Our warmest recommendation!

    The first meat subscription I’m actually glad I got. Worth every buck!
