MealPro Review
If you are not much of a cook or simply cannot fit cooking into your schedule, MealPro is here to help you eat healthily without spending more than a couple of minutes in the kitchen. This California-based service has been providing ready-to-heat, chef-prepared meals since 2016. It focuses on tasty, filling food that is good for your body and does not add extra inches to your waistline.
Find out what makes this company different than other prepared meal deliveries and discover all the reasons to give it a shot in this in-depth MealPro review.
What Is MealPro
MealPro is a prepared meal delivery service that provides healthy, pre-cooked meals that you can customize to perfectly suit your diet. It allows you to order with or without a subscription and enjoy delicious and nutritious food at a good price.
The service aims to provide a healthy alternative to home-cooked meals. It sources real ingredients that are fresh, natural, sustainable, and free from GMOs, hormones, antibiotics, and artificial additives. Its chefs prepare your meals from scratch right before they are shipped. You can choose the meals that suit your taste and modify them to fit your needs.
Designed for home diners who prefer a la carte ordering over pre-defined meal plans, MealPro allows you to order anything from its rich rotating menu. You can get as many portions of the same meal as you wish and choose from a range of well-balanced meals suitable for meat, seafood, and veggie lovers. You can even order food by the pound and assemble your meals on your own using cooked and lightly seasoned ingredients. You have full control over what goes into your box. The service only dictates how many meals you can get per delivery, but everything else is completely up to you.
In short, MealPro is a meal delivery service that makes healthy eating easy and budget-friendly. It lets you shop as often as you want, get exactly what you need, and fill your fridge or freezer with meals that you can heat up and enjoy in no more than 5 minutes.
How Does MealPro Work
As a MealPro customer, you can decide whether you want to have 18 or 20 healthy meals delivered to your home. You can choose your meals from the menu that features 24 distinct items. Ordering options include one-time orders and recurring deliveries.
Out of 2 dozen items on the menu, 18 are meals and 6 of them are cooked proteins, veggies, and carbs sold by the pound. The menu does not change every week, but you get to enjoy different veggies on a regular basis and protein options change seasonally.
Food by the pound is not customizable while meals can be adjusted to include more proteins, carbs or veg. You can decide on both the selection of meals in your order and the number of servings per meal.
Once you choose your meals, the company sources all the necessary ingredients within 1-2 days. When the ingredients arrive, the company’s chefs get cooking. Freshly cooked meals are blast chilled and shipped with no delays to ensure maximum freshness and nutritiousness.
With one-time orders, there are no commitments and you can have meals of your choice delivered whenever you wish. Recurring deliveries allow you to receive meals every week or every month, depending on your needs. You can modify or cancel your recurring orders online through your MealPro account. You should make the desired modifications by Thursday 11 AM CST the week before your next scheduled delivery.
What Makes MealPro Different
In comparison to other prepared meal deliveries, MealPro gives you significantly more freedom when ordering. You can choose whether you want to subscribe or not. You have the entire menu at your disposal. You can order as many portions of the same meal as you need. You can get ready-made meals or create new meals from pre-cooked ingredients. You can decide on the protein-to-carb-to-veg ratio in all your meals. In a word, you can personalize your every meal and order, which is not something all services allow.
On the other hand, MealPro does not let you order only a few meals. While many meal deliveries provide 3-meal or even 2-meal options, MealPro only lets you decide if you want to order 18 or 20 items. That means that you should have plenty of room in your fridge or freezer to store your MealPro order. This is perhaps an undesirable distinctive feature of the service.
MealPro’s subscriptions are unique as well. Unlike with other services, subscriptions do not differ from one-time orders in any way apart from the fact that they bring you regular deliveries at the desired frequency, along with membership perks. By membership perks, we mean participation in the company’s rewards program. As a subscriber, you get reward points for every dollar you spend and you can exchange your points for free meals.
For those looking for a last-minute foodie gift, MealPro offers e-gift cards that can include a personalized message from the sender. At the moment, gift card value options include $60, $120, and $240.
MealPro Meals And Recipes
Previously in this MealPro review, we have mentioned that the company’s rotating menu includes 18 meals and 6 cooked foods sold by the pound. All the dishes on the menu are single-serving meals that can be purchased in the desired quantity.
While the dishes on the menu are not particularly inventive, they are suitable for a variety of diets. About a dozen meals on the menu are suitable for carnivores and omnivores and generally feature turkey or chicken as the main protein source. Usually, there are around 4 seafood dishes suitable for pescatarians and 2 dishes that are vegan-friendly and vegetarian-friendly.
Most menu items are allergy-friendly and you can opt for gluten-free, dairy-free or soy-free dishes. Other special diet options include low-sodium, high-protein, keto-friendly, and Paleo meals.
Like we said, the company’s meals are neither exotic nor creative and the same goes for the company’s seasoning practices, which seem to rely on the less-is-more principle. Since not everyone likes spicy food, the company uses simple spices, seasons lightly, and its meals come with sauce on the side so you can decide whether you want to use it or not. Therefore, some may find MealPro dishes to be bland, but the truth is that the service seasons moderately on purpose since seasonings can be added.
If you decide to order food by the pound, you can get cooked chicken, turkey, fish, mixed veggies, mixed carbs, and the like. All the items are seasoned with standard spices like oregano, salt, pepper, and lemon. You can combine them into meals of your own and add seasoning to taste.
Portion Size And Nutrition Facts
All the meals are nutritionally balanced. A single serving contains about 10 ounces of veggies and up to 8 ounces of proteins. You can further adjust the macronutrient ratio by customizing your meals. You can add extra proteins, veggies or carbs, remove carbs and double up on the veg, and add turkey or chicken to your veggie meals.
In general, MealPro dishes come in ample portions of 20+ ounces and they contain 40+ grams of proteins. The average calorie count is about 500 to 700 calories prior to customization.
Heating And Storage Tips
MealPro meals arrive frozen. You can store them in your fridge if you plan on enjoying them within 2-3 days. Otherwise, you should store them in your freezer and enjoy them within a month or two. They can last longer if frozen, but like all frozen food, they can lose nutrients and flavor.
Thawing before heating is not necessary, but it is recommended. You should thaw the meals in your fridge for 1-2 days. For heating purposes, you can use a microwave or an oven. First, you should remove the protective plastic film on the top of the container. In a microwave, the meals take 3 to 5 minutes to heat. If heating in an oven, you should keep in mind that MealPro trays are oven-safe for up to 30 minutes at the temperature of 300ºF. This should be enough for your meal to heat through.
How Much Does MealPro Cost
MealPro is a rather affordable service. Its meals and foods normally cost between $5.99 and $9.99 per serving. Keep in mind that if you choose to customize your meals, the price per serving increases. You can expect to pay up to $2 per customization.
How much you pay for shipping depends on where you live. For some states like California, shipping is free of charge. Deliveries to addresses in most continental US states usually come with a shipping fee of up to $9.99. Alaska customers pay a $39.99 shipping fee per delivery while Hawaiian patrons pay a $99.99 fee per delivery.

Bottom Line
MealPro is a highly interesting prepared meal delivery that caters to home diners who want to enjoy a healthy, balanced diet and prefer non-spicy classics to exotic dishes. The range of special diets covered is impressive, meals come in large portions, and you can always customize your meals to better suit your preferences. Furthermore, we like that you can order cooked food by the pound and create custom meals in minutes.
The only aspect of the service that we do not like is the 18-or-20-meal order limit. We believe that MealPro could significantly expand its customer base if it allowed its patrons to order fewer meals. Still, the service is pretty budget-friendly and you can order commitment-free, which are just some of the multiple reasons to try it out.
I ordered MealPro because I’m a caretaker for my mom and I’ve been very sick myself for over two months so cooking has been extremely challenging. I put delivery instructions to please put on our porch so it wouldn’t stay in the sun. Nope. Left on our walkway in almost 90° heat for over a day. I don’t blame MealPro for UPS’s issue (20 meals were almost totally thawed out, making them a must-eat within 1-2 days), but I do have problems when there are long, blond hairs in our food. We are both brunette. We ended up trashing our dinners. And what was supposed to be chicken breast was a mix of breast, back, and thigh meat. Overall, inedible even without the hairs. We live in TN so I figured we’d pay a bit more for shipping. Ours was $70!!! I do not recommend this company and I’m very upset that HuffPost had it listed as a top company for heat and eat meals.
Service is great! Price is great!
Website could be friendlier, I’d like to see photos of items in my recurring order menu so I don’t have to cross-reference. I’d like to see a more robust referral system.
Tasty and fast. Been looking for service like this for a while. Best part? Delivered on a record 103 degree oceanside day, sat for 2 hours on front porch and was still cold!!
Not many any reviews on this, I was skeptical at first but it seems like these guys don’t have all the marketing bs as all of the other places. Upside of that is fewer shills, downside is less overall feedback. They don’t force you to pick a subscription. I signed up a few weeks ago and have had a few meals. I like the meals, they are tasty and have generous portions. I like the 21 meal plan now I don’t have to login every week and pause shipping or whatever, I can simply order 21 more meals when I’m ready. Favorite so far is garlic chicken. Going to try the steak next, if don’t leave a follow up, assume it was decent. If it’s bad I’ll leave another review. Also super easy to warm up, we switched from hello fresh and green chef, 30 minutes and felt like 6 pans a meal, now recycling one meal tray.
I received mealpro as a gift. I would say the portion size very large especially on the rice and potatoes. The taste not good. All of the chicken products taste the same and have a very strong seasoning on them. The turkey dinner was ground turkey burgers that did not taste fresh. Finally, the meatball dinner was made with tasted like frozen meatball. Overall I would not purchase this product again.
Not impressed at all by the quality or taste. Meals don’t look ANYTHING like the pictures. I think they lie about the macros because half the chicken dishes I ordered were either served with an entire Tupperware container of rice or potatoes and maybe 150g of chicken. The steak dishes were beyond awful that I had to force myself to eat them. It wasn’t even served like strips of steak, I’m assuming my meal was the last one and I just got crumbs of steak. Delivery was timely and well packed but not worth it at all.
Large portions and good quality food. I customized some to be low carb and others to be higher in protein. Good service and price. Highly recommend.
Great! Filling portion sizes. Pretty high quality ingredients. The veggies were fresh. Proteins were also pretty impressive.
Don’t shop meal pro! They force you to pick a 28 day subscription (or less) then when you go to cancel less than 1 month later they have already shipped you more food. There’s no email warnings or updates saying, “select your meals.” When I emailed and call the man kept talking over me and yelling at me. They are SHADY and with all the wonderful meal services out there you should take your business elsewhere! Spread the word.
Nothing special about the MealPro food. Not very good, not bad just a bunch of ingredients combined to fit into one serving and hopefully make you full and give you the impression that you are eating healthy.
It’s stupid that you can order less than 18 meals. It was my first time ordering and I just wanted to try it out and see I’ve I’m going to like it and then order two weeks worth of food.
It;s like I’ve ordered from my local dinner. The aste is average at best and it seemed like it was days old, sitting on some shelf somewhere.
MealPro eliminates the stress of not knowing what to eat or having the time to prepare it. I can relax in the sense of knowing that whatever I order I know it is healthy, high-quality and carefully prepared.
Healthy ingredients + precooked + home delivery = happiness!!!
Good prices, good food, could use more variety but overall, pretty awesome.
At first, I didn’t like the meals so much because I expected them to be tastier. I looked online to see what others were saying and I saw your review and what you said about seasoning. Sounds stupid, but I didn’t remember to add spices so now I added a bit of garlic salt and some sriracha and it’s much better. I like that the food is simple and everything is obviously natural and the prices are cool. I’m not sure I’ll order often because I live alone and don’t need that much food, but I’ll order again for sure.
