Send A Meal Review
Send A Meal is a Colorado-based frozen meal delivery that delivers gourmet delights throughout America. Its offer includes hundreds of prepared meals that you can enjoy yourself or have them sent as gifts to people you care about. Whether you are interested in a lobster dinner, decadent desserts, diabetic-friendly meals, gorgeous veggie dishes or special occasion treats, this service has plenty of tasty options to satisfy your needs.
Stick around as we discover how the service works, what its menu looks like, and how affordable its meals are in this comprehensive Send A Meal review.
How Send A Meal Works
With Send A Meal, there are no subscriptions, no commitments, no minimum orders. You can order every week or once in a blue moon. You can have a single meal delivered or order dozens of them at once. You can have the meals delivered to your home, your office or your friend’s place. There are no rules or limitations to spoil your ordering experience. Just choose whatever you like, go through the checkout process, and let the Send A Meal team do the rest.
Generally, the company’s offer can be divided into two categories, including prepared meals for personal enjoyment and meal gifts. Both categories include about a dozen sections, with prepared meals divided by meal type and meal gifts divided by occasion. You can order meals containing 1, 2 or 4 servings.
While many meal delivery companies focus on dinners only, Send A Meal has a wider offer. Its menu includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, soups, sides, appetizers, desserts, and special diet options. All meals are delivered frozen, with the exception of live lobster.
Since there are no subscriptions, you do not have to worry about skipping, canceling, and other issues related to automatic recurring shipments. You simply place a one-off order every time you want to have food delivered. Once placed, the order can be canceled if it has not yet been prepared for shipping. However, we strongly advise you only to place an order if you are sure you want it since canceled orders are subject to a 15% administration fee.
What Makes Send A Meal Different
The 2 defining aspects of Send A Meal are variety and flexibility. There are very few meal delivery services that offer such a large number of meals and even fewer services that offer meals of virtually all types suitable for a variety of different diets. Plus, the service offers numerous meal gifts and provides dishes for individuals of all ages, from little ones to seniors. Thus, it aims to offer something for everyone and it is successful in its efforts.
Second, it offers maximum ordering flexibility. There are other meal delivery services that do not require a subscription, but they normally impose limitations like minimum orders. Send A Meal goes a step further and gives you full freedom to decide how much food you want to receive.
Finally, it is important to note that Send A Meal sources prepared meals from some of the most popular companies in the business, such as Omaha Steaks and Lobster Gram, bringing all the best gourmet meals available online to one place.
Meals And Recipes
As mentioned earlier in this Send A Meal review, you have hundreds of meals and meal gifts at your disposal. The options include omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian, diabetic, keto-friendly, low-sodium, low-fat, gluten-free, and dairy-free items, as well as kid-friendly and senior-friendly meals. You can purchase meals individually or in bundles.
The menu is divided into 16 sections. These include luxurious gourmet meals, meal combos, beef, BBQ, pasta, poultry, pork, seafood, live lobster, appetizers, meat-only meals, side dishes, diabetic meals, gluten-free dishes, meals for special diets, and soups. Each section includes dozens of dishes complete with preparation instructions and nutrition facts. The meals generally include 2 or 4 servings, but there is a special section dedicated to meals for 1.
If you want to give a meal gift to someone, you can choose from 10 categories. These include birthday, new baby, get well, sympathy, thank-you, anniversary, romantic, housewarming, and congratulations gifts, as well as the occasion-neutral meal of the month gift. Each option includes multiple meals and gift recipients often get to choose the meals themselves.
To aid you in your search and help you save cash, the company has created additional categories including best-selling meals, money-saving meal deals, items that come with free shipping, and items under $40.
Heating And Storage Tips
Send A Meal ships its meals fully cooked and frozen. There are only a few items that are shipped fresh and ready to cook, such as live lobsters and steaks. Unless delivered fresh, you should keep your meals in the freezer until you are ready to thaw, heat, and enjoy. You can keep them frozen for months, but they taste best when enjoyed within a month.
The service provides detailed cooking and heating instructions for each meal, which you can view on the company’s official website prior to ordering. Virtually all meals can be heated in a microwave or an oven. If heating in a microwave, you should remove all plastic packaging and heat the meal on the provided paper tray for 3-4 minutes. In an oven preheated to 350º F , you should place the meal onto an oven-safe tray and heat for 15-30 minutes. Heating times and recommended temperatures may vary from one meal to another, so be sure to view the specific heating instructions provided on the website.
Pricing
All Send A Meal items are individually priced and the cost per serving greatly depends on meal type. The prices start at about $6 per serving, but you can expect to pay twice as much for a luxurious dinner. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable and the company frequently offers discounts that may go up to 50%.
Unfortunately, shipping is not always free and the costs significantly vary depending on location. Free shipping within the US is available on select menu items, as well as meal gift vouchers and gift certificates.

Bottom Line
Send A Meal is a perfect solution for busy home diners and a great source of foodie gifts. Its offer is so vast it may take you many hours to explore every menu section and the range of options for different diets is truly impressive. We like that the company has made sure there is something for singles, kids, and seniors alike and the absence of a minimum order is a nice touch. Finally, the prices are alright and all the meals come with a satisfaction guarantee, so if you do not like them, you can get your money back.
Got a new baby gift for my best friend, she absolutely loved it, will be ordering again for sure.
Excellent quality, delivered on time, the prices are fine. Still, considering that they have so many meals on offer, they could really add more diabetic meals to the menu and let you buy them individually, not in packs. In theory, you could buy a single meal, but you actually have to order at least 7 meals at once if you are a diabetic, since they only come in 7-meal packs. It’s not like I would order just 1, but I hate being forced to buy exactly 7, 14 or whatever.
